The last time I was in Sarasota, Florida, I was on a business trip attending a conference at the Ritz Carlton; here’s a view from my room’s balcony. This time I’ll be crashing at the home of one of the other presenters. An artist often has to travel on the cheap!
That’s the mission of the creativity workshop I’m conducting on Saturday, March 21st, at the Florida Creativity Weekend in Sarasota, Florida. “Putting Your Whole Brain to Work” will be an 90-minute interactive session with games, storytelling, and of course a whiteboard. Here’s the teaser on the conference’s website:
Does your creative process involve your right and left brains? Creativity flourishes best when right-brain freedom of idea exploration is coupled with left-brain creative guideposts. In this hands-on workshop, Patrick will share lessons learned from interviews of creatives of all types, including artists interviewed in his book COMMITTED: A MEMOIR OF THE ARTIST’S ROAD as well as winners of the nation’s highest awards for scientific innovation. Learn how to put your whole brain to work for you and your creativity!
Sarasota ain’t a bad place to be during the winter, and as I look out right now at my back yard covered in snow, I find myself counting the days. (That view, sans snow, as well as my whiteboard wall, can be found on Annie Neugebauer’s website in her Decorative Writer series.) So I’d love to see you there; there’s still time to register.
But if you can’t make it, and remain curious about whole-brain thinking, you can spend more time here at The Artist’s Road. I just did a search for “whole-brain” on this site and came up with ten results! (Clearly it’s a topic of interest to me.)
Wish me luck in Florida!
ADDENDUM MARCH 10, 2015: I have been invited to give a reading of Committed: A Memoir of the Artist’s Road while I’m in Sarasota at the Art Uptown Gallery, “Florida’s oldest and only cooperative fine arts gallery.” Apparently the gallery is just down the street from the location of the Florida Creativity Weekend’s Sunday location, so I likely will do the reading shortly after the conclusion of the conference in the early afternoon Sunday, March 22nd. I’ll post details in the Events section of my website as they become available.
